LAHORE: An FIR has been registered against more than three dozen students on the complaint of Punjab University Chief Security Officer Ubaid Masood in Muslim Town police station.

Meanwhile, the varsity also suspended four students of Hailey College of Commerce on Thursday for their involvement in a clash which broke out between two student groups a couple of days ago.

Masood said the groups were armed with clubs and iron rods. The administration tried to pacify them but to no avail. During the conflict, security officer Shahbaz Ahmad and another person suffered injuries.

The suspended students were identified as Hafiz Muhammad Ahmed, Awab, Waqas Ali and Nabeel, all students of Hailey College. Two of the students belonged to Islami Jamiat Tulba (IJT) and as many were from the Punjabi Council. The students have been asked to appear before a committee so that the matter is investigated further.

On Wednesday, four students were injured when two student groups clashed with each other on the university premises.

The clash started when a group of students, reportedly affiliated with the Punjabi Council, approached the Hailey College of Commerce principal to complain that some outsiders affiliated with IJT were creating a nuisance.

Meanwhile, IJT members also reached the spot and stopped activists of the Punjabi Council outside the principal’s office. This led to a scuffle and IJT members beat up four Punjabi Council activists.

The council members gathered outside Hostel 18 and staged a protest against the IJT. A few IJT members were nearby the hostel. On seeing them, the protesters attacked the council members

Matters were finally pacified after the intervention of the university administration.
