Court asks for investigation of appointment procedure, teachers' degrees

KARACHI: The Supreme Court directed on Tuesday that the case pertaining to illegal appointments of teachers in Naushahro Feroze district be heard again after reopening the investigation. A two-member bench comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was hearing the pleas filed by 12 teachers, including Majid, against the verdict given by the service tribunal, at the SC Karachi registry.

The petitioners maintained that they were appointed in 2012. In the past seven years, not a single salary has been paid, according to them. They argued that it's all good as long they work without pay but when they ask for their salaries, they are told that their appointments are illegal. They said that 128 teachers were appointed in Naushehro Feroze district. The teachers' degrees were checked and investigated twice - the first time they were said to be original but the second investigation declared them fake.

The court directed that the case be heard again in two months after investigation is carried out again. SC also directed that the degrees and the procedure for making appointments be investigated again.

Contested plot

Meanwhile, another two-member bench comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Faisal Arab sought the petitioner's counter-reply to the reply submitted by the Sindh Building Control Authority on a plea filed against the construction of Chandni Residency for commercial purposes.

SBCA's reply, submitted in court, states that the plot on which Chandni Residency is being constructed was never an amenity plot. It maintains that the plot was not allotted for amenity purposes.

The court sought the petitioner's counter-reply and adjourned the hearing indefinitely.

The petitioner's plea had claimed that Chandni Residency was being constructed on an amenity plot in front of Old Sabzi Mandi.
