PTI minister wants the corrupt to be dragged on streets, hanged
Faisal Vawda had earlier called for hanging 5,000 'corrupt' people in Pakistan
Days after federal minister Faisal Vawda suggested to "hang 5,000 people to transform the future of 220 million-strong nation," the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader reiterated the demand on Tuesday with an harsher condition attached.
Addressing a National Assembly session in Islamabad, Vawda said the corrupt and money-launderers should be tied and dragged behind a vehicle before being hanged, Express News reported.
Vawda said he had made the demand for upholding the supremacy of rule of law, which, he added, will change the fate of all Pakistanis.
Many politicians, including social media users, had taken a strong exception against the statement, and criticised the federal minister for passing such irresponsible remarks.
Vawda promises 'too many jobs to fill' in the next few weeks
“Those who are labelling me as fascist... have they forgotten the Model Town incident,” the PTI lawmaker said, referring to the 2014 incident in which 14 people were killed and 100 others injured in a clash between supporters of Pakistan Awami Tehreek and police.
Vawda, who defeated former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif from a Karachi constituency in the 2018 general elections, said the PML-N president should challenge the results if he believed the poll was rigged.
In March, however, he had requested the Sindh High Court to dismiss Shehbaz's petition challenging the results of NA-249, claiming it was not maintainable.
“I will resign from my ministry and National Assembly seat if a rigging was found during the re-counting...," Vawda added.
