Drunken Karachi cop suspended over aerial firing, harassing women

KARACHI: A drunken policeman was suspended on Monday, a day after a video showing him resorting to aerial firing and creating ruckus outside his neighbour’s house in Karachi went viral.

Amir Hameed, the neighbour, filed a complaint against police constable Amjad at Hyderi Market Police Station in North Nazimabad. The complainant also made the video of the Sunday's incident and put it on social media.

Taking notice of the video, district central SSP Arif Aslam Rao suspended the police personnel and deputed him as a quarter guard at Hyderi Police Station.

According to Hameed, Amjad has been his neighbour for the last 13 years and he frequently caused disturbance in the neighbourhood while being under the influence of alcohol.

He also alleged that the drunken policeman habitually resorted to aerial firing and also misbehaved with women and children.

Several attempts had already been made to restrain Amjad of his “dangerous act” but to no avail, he added.

According to the complainant, his children were afraid of stepping outside their home.
