KARACHI:
The Pakistani cricket team has been receiving much criticism following their disappointing performance against India at the ICC World Cup 2019. However, this chain of ongoing backlash has turned into harassment for the cricketers.

Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, accompanied by his son, was insulted in person by an upset fan at a mall in England, after he obliged to his request for a photo. The chain of events can be seen in a video that started making rounds on social media last night.

The fan, instead of taking a picture with Ahmed, started recording him. Sarfaraz started walking away but the man chased him, throwing obscenities at him. "Why are you so fat, like a pig?" the fan can be heard saying.

Fans and celebrities around the world, including those from India, have extended support to the Pakistani captain. Actors like Riteish Deshmukh took to Twitter to express their disregard on the incident. He tweeted, "Every captain in history has lost an important match.  doesn’t deserve this. This is harassment... for heaven’s sake, he is with his child."

Indian anchor, Manak Gupta added, "Disgusting behaviour. The man is with his child...Absolutely shameless."

Sports journalist like Sawera Pasha also tweeted saying, "This is getting absurd to the core of its existence. If you had a laugh over this then you’re mentally sick! @SarfarazA_54 May Allah be with you! Go out and show the world what you’re made of! #CWC19"

Fellow cricketer, Kamran Akmal, also came out in support of his leader saying, "Condemnable, very disrespectful and disgraceful. This man should be punished if there is any verbal abuse law in England."

Multimedia journalist Syed Reza Mehdi wrote, "A shameful act by a Pakistani fan with captain Sarfaraz Ahmed. This is how we treat our National heroes. Highly condemnable!!"

Reham Khan called the act "disgraceful behaviour" in her tweet. "Disgraceful behaviour by this obnoxious guy who clearly needs better parenting. Sarfaraz just lost a game of cricket but as a society, we have lost our basic values and decency".

Saj Sadiq, a cricket journalist added, "No manners. No respect. Absolutely disgraceful behaviour. Yes, the performances have not been good but the players don't deserve such abuse "

Cricket commentator Muhammad Wasim said, "Absolutely disgusting! What language, specially in front of children!"

The harasser, after being shamed online, released an apology video of himself on Twitter.
