Four Haripur cops suspended for criminal patronage
K-P police launched probe against four ASIs based on intelligence reports
HARIPUR:
The police department has suspended four cops in Haripur after reports indicated that they were involved with criminal groups in the area.
Based on intelligence reports, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police department had launched a probe against four Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI) including Rashid, Majid Khan, Raja Saeed and Asad.
Haripur District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Zahidullah along with other officers of the department conducted departmental inquiries.
The DPO later suspended the four officers. They were subsequently charged with deceiving citizens, patronising criminals groups including car lifters from Punjab, and selling the stolen vehicles in the district.
Moreover, the officers were also charged with harassing Afghan refugees and even government officials over transferring plots and other activities.
Residents of the district and a few government revenue officials had previously complained to the DPO that some police officers were misusing their authority.
The district police officer suspended the services of ASI Ghazanfar Hussein and a police constable for taking bribes and threatening citizens with illegal detentions.
Previously, three police constables were been terminated from service for making pornographic videos of men and women in the district.
