PESHAWAR:
A day after issuing a notice to the chief minister for violating the election code of conduct, the apex poll body on Friday ordered to stop the implementation of the Insaf Rozgar Scheme in the province.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) directed the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) chief secretary and the finance secretary to freeze funds for the project and summoned a report by June 25.

The ECP further said that the announcement of projects in tribal areas is a violation of the electoral code of conduct.

K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan had distributed documents for providing interest-free loans amongst the youth of the tribal districts. Loans worth Rs50,000 to Rs1 million will be given to some 5,500 men and women of erstwhile federally administered tribal areas (Fata) in the first phase. More than 2,000 applications had been received in this regard.
