Liverpool may have to start 2019-20 Premier League season without Salah, Mane
Duo currently gearing up to participate in Africa Cup of Nations
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool will be eyeing the Premier League title in the upcoming season which they failed to lift with just a point's difference between them and winners Manchester City, but it might not be that easy.
After winning the Champions Trophy, Liverpool will be looking to announce their dominance in the Premier League as well, but their star duo of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane may not be able to start the campaign with the team.
Both players are currently gearing up for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with Mane playing for Senegal and Salah representing Egypt.
This means that if any of them make it to the final they will be playing constant football till July 19.
This means that both or any one of the players will have nearly two weeks to recuperate for the Community Shield match with Liverpool against Manchester City.
Salah, over the last two seasons, has played a total of 9,379 minutes for Liverpool and Egypt, including 8,461 for the Reds.
Meanwhile, he was nearly always present in the Liverpool team as he played 52 games in four competitions last season.
Former Arsenal and Cameroon defender Lauren has warned that Klopp should avoid starting Premier League campaign with the two players, otherwise they may lose their effectiveness mid-season.
“Whatever happens, Liverpool will need to start the season without Salah and Mane, as they will need a good couple of weeks to rest and recuperate.
“Otherwise their level will drop during the season. Players will be mentally and physically exhausted and will need a few weeks to recuperate before heading into the new Premier League season.
“If they don’t get the rest, there will be a chance that their Premier League campaign will be impacted by a slow start as the players are just too tired to play.
“This could be trouble for Liverpool as both Salah and Mane will likely be involved in the latter stages of the African Cup of Nations.”
