KARACHI:
Residents staged a protest at Sakhi Hassan Chowrangi against the non-supply of water in the area. Traffic was at a standstill in the area for an hour as the protesters demonstrated against the non-provision of water.
The protesters claimed that they had complained several times at the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) complaint centre but no action was taken by the authorities.
They resorted to protests because the authorities have left them yearning for a single drop of water in the scorching heat. Meanwhile, the tanker mafia sells water at exorbitant rates, they maintained.
The protesters said the only options available to them were to either purchase water at extremely high rates or manage to live without water.
Commuters, however, suffered as traffic remained at a standstill on the road and had to be diverted towards alternative routes through service roads.
