Car tramples rickshaw leaving mother, son dead in Karachi

Eyewitnesses reveal that driver of the car stayed at the scene for a while and then fled

KARACHI:
Two were killed and six others injured in a road accident in the wee hours of Thursday, at 2am, in Khayaban-e-Shahbaz commercial area.

The victims, belonging to the same family, were travelling in a rickshaw and met with an accident when a white Vigo car, bearing the registration number KZ-4440, broke a signal and trampled the rickshaw. As a result, a minor boy and his mother died on the spot, while six others sustained injuries.


Eyewitnesses revealed that driver of the car stayed at the scene for a while and then fled. However, a police mobile, from a nearby picket, chased and detained the driver after encircling his car near Khayaban-e-Shaheen. The police took the car into custody and shifted it to the Gizri police station.  The dead have been identified as Sabira, 50, and Moiz, 6. The injured included deceased Sabira’s husband, Ghulam Muhammad, 55, her 22-year-old daughter, Basra, her son, Mubashir, 10 and three of Ghulam Muhammad’s nephews, Owais, 30, Muzammil, 12, and Mudasir, 10. They are under treatment at JPMC.

Police said that the car’s driver had been taken into custody and a case would be registered against him once the condition of the injured stabilises.
