Japanese Girls’ Rape: LHC upholds trial court’s decision

Maqsood and Butt were awarded life imprisonment, while the three other men were acquitted.

LAHORE:
A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday upheld the decision of a trial court and awarded a 14-year sentence to each of the two accused on charges of raping two Japanese girls. In 2007, Adil Maqsood and Fahad Butt along with their three accomplices had raped two Japanese girls in Garden Town. They were tried by an anti-terrorist court and found guilty. Maqsood and Butt were awarded life imprisonment, while the three other men were acquitted. Both the convicts had filed appeals in the LHC against the order of the anti-terrorism court. On Wednesday, an LHC bench, headed by Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry, dismissed their appeals.
