Contempt Petition: LHC threatens tehsil officials with jail
if they did not reply to a petition accusing them of demolishing a house in violation of court orders.
LAHORE:
Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday warned the Mandi Bahauddin tehsil municipal officer and tehsil officer (regulations) that they would be sent to jail if they did not reply to a petition accusing them of demolishing a house in violation of court orders. The judge, who was hearing a contempt of court petition filed by Muhammad Rafi accusing the tehsil administration of tearing down his house even though he had a stay order, adjourned the hearing till July 12. Both officials appeared before the judge on Wednesday and asked for more time to reply. This irked the judge, who went on to say that they should take court proceedings seriously. He then told them to reply by July 12 or face prison.
