Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Tuesday stated the government is trying the distract the masses from rising inflation by arresting political opponents under the garb of accountability.

During a joint meeting of opposition parties in the Parliament, Bilawal asked: "The question is where are the public and country heading? The question is whether decisions will be made by the Parliament or other institutions," he added.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shehbaz Sharif was also at the meeting and stated that the government is trying to distract the public by creating noise in the form of accountability.

"Incompetent and incapable government has made the common man's life miserable. Investment is decreasing, there is no national development and the dollar is at a sky-high price."

"We are united not for us, but for Pakistan and the people. People have expectations from the opposition," said the PML-N leader.

PML-N vice president Hamza Shehbaz was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after the provincial opposition leader’s bail plea was rejected by the Lahore High Court (LHC). The move came a day after PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari was arrested by the accountability watchdog from Islamabad.
