ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Peoples Party has called a countrywide protest demonstration hours after its Co-chairman Asif Zardari’s arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Rawalpindi.

Zardari was arrested in the fake accounts case from his residence on Monday after the Islamabad High Court rejected his plea, seeking extension in his interim bail.

Among others, the decision of holding the countrywide protest was taken during an emergency meeting of the PPP Central Executive Committee (CEC), chaired by party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

The CEC meeting condemned the arrest of Zardari, calling it “vindictive policies of the government”.

Sources said directives were issued to the PPP workers and supporters to hold protest demonstrations across the country.

“The PPP chairman will lead a mass contact movement,” they told The Express Tribune.

It was also decided to take the opposition parties on board and participate in the All Parties Conference, they added.
