Three killed, nine injured in vehicle fire
Multiple accidents and crimes occurred across the province during Eidul Fitr holidays

Three people were killed while nine others were injured as a passenger van caught fire near Gamber on main GT Road in Okara on Saturday. Express News reported that a van carrying passengers caught fire due to gas leakage and short circuit in Gamber, near Okara. As a result, three people were killed and nine others sustained burn injuries.
Ambulance, rescue and two fire vehicles rushed to the spot, brought the fire under control and provided first aid to the victims. The injured were shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital where the condition of all three is critical.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of lives in the incident. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the early recovery of the injured persons. He ordered the best medical help for the injured passengers.
There were multiple incidents of accidents and crimes that have occurred during the Eidul Fitr holidays. In Lahore, the body of a young woman was recovered from Gogera Branch Canal in the jurisdiction of the Rodala Road police station. A police official said that on Saturday, some passers-by witnessed the body of the woman floating on the surface of water in the canal near Sitiana and informed the area police. The police rushed to the spot and fished out the body which was later on sent to a mortuary for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.
In Sargodha, two men were killed while four others suffered bullet injuries in separate incidents in the jurisdiction of Jauharbad and Phularwan police station. Police officials said that Samar Abbas, a resident of Kundan Kalan, had an enmity with Lal Khan due to some litigation and murder cases. On Saturday, Samar and his accomplices opened indiscriminate fire at Lal Khan while he was offering funeral prayers at the village. Lal Khan died on the spot, while four others, Murtaza, Zafar Iqbal, Tauqeer Ahmad and Mumtaz, suffered injuries.
In another incident, three unidentified people tortured an old man to death. Nawaz (65), a resident of Chakian, was killed and the accused threw his dead body into the nearby fields. The injured were shifted to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital. Police registered separate cases and started investigations.
In Muzaffargarh, a youngster drowned in the Indus River near Danraen village on Saturday. Police officials said that Riaz Ahmed, son of Dr Fiaz, was fishing at the Indus when he fell into the river and drowned. Rescue rushed to the site and recovered the body. Police are investigating the incident.
In Khanewal, three persons were killed during 73 minor accidents reported across the district during the Eidul Fitr holidays. Rescue officials said that as many as 300 rescuers performed duties during Eid. District Emergency Officer Dr Ejaz Anjum said that three persons lost their lives in the road mishaps. Rescue 1122 shifted 63 persons to different hospitals and 14 were administered first aid.

In the first incident, police officials stated that Sajid of Pind Rahim Shah quarreled with 22-year-old Shahzeb on Eid day over some petty issue. Sajid, along with his accomplices Hamad and Zeb, shot dead Shahzeb and fled on a motorbike.
In the second incident, Muhammad Shahbaz, along with his three accomplices, shot dead his opponent Fakhar Shahzad and injured Haider and Fayyaz in Jasuwal area over a water dispute. The bodies were handed over to the heirs after postmortem. Police have registered separate cases.
Road accidents in Faisalabad
In Faisalabad, as many as two people died and 517 sustained injuries in different road traffic accidents during Eid. Rescue officials reported that at least 409 road accidents were reported in different areas of the city, more than 517 rescued people, including 285 injured, were shifted to nearby hospitals and the remaining were given first aid on the spot.
A Rescue official said that most of the incidents took place due to reckless driving. He added that some of the bikers who sustained head injuries were in a serious condition. District Officer Emergency Ahtsham Wahala told The Express Tribune more than 300 staffers served during Eid holidays and 50 immediate response points were set up in the city. “Rescue officials and workers’ leaves were temporarily suspended on Eid due to the Eid emergency plan,” he added.
“Everybody was vigilant and put on alert to tackle all kinds of untoward situations. A total of 14 ambulances and 50 motorbike ambulances were used to reach the incidents.” DHQ hospital and Allied hospital, two major hospitals of the city were put on alert to handle emergency situations.
