Aged convict dies of cardiac arrest at hospital
71-year-old Hamiri was serving a 12-year jail term in NAB reference at Adiala Jail

A 71-year-old inmate, convicted and jailed in a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) corruption reference, died on the second day of Eidul Fitr on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC).
Convict, Shaikh Muhammad Ali Hamiri, was shifted to the hospital from Adiala Jail following complaints of pain in the heart.
According to Waris Khan police station, Hamiri was awarded a 12-year jail sentence in a NAB reference 9A of which he had served four years.
On Thursday, the second day of Eid, Hamiri complained of chest pain at around 12pm after which he was shifted from Adiala Jail to the RIC.
However, the convict was reported dead at 1:30pm while undergoing treatment at the hospital’s emergency ward.
According to police, the body was shifted to DHQ hospital where a post-mortem examination was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Sub-Inspector Babar for legal compliance.
The police said that Hamiri was a resident of Islamabad’s Sector I-8. The body was handed over to the son after completion of medico-legal formalities.
