The demand for flowers, petals, and wreaths has increased on Eidul Fitr. In view of this heightened demand, flower vendors have doubled prices of bouquets and flowers.
People usually purchase bouquets for their relatives and loved ones while they purchase petals to take to graveyards.
Shopkeepers usually pre-prepared bags of flower petals and reduce the overall weight of the bags and the number of petals by offsetting it with stems and leaves while the prices are hiked.
A kilogramme of petals is sold for Rs200-250 while artificial garlands, which are spread over graves, are available for Rs100.
The relatively superior quality of petals is available for Rs200 while the best quality was being sold for as much as Rs800. Incense sticks of low quality are available for as much as Rs50 a box.
Moreover, a number of temporary stalls and carts have popped up outside the graveyards in the twin cities.
Some citizens visited the graves on the weekend on Ramazan 27, cleaning the graves of their loved ones and offering prayers. The municipal corporation has also ordered cleanliness of graveyards as a huge chunk of the population would visit graveyards during Eid days.
