PHA night cricket tournament ends

RAWALPINDI: The cricket tournament sponsored by Rawalpindi Parks and Horticulture Authority concluded on Saturday.

The tournament was arranged between teams representing the provincial constituencies of Rawalpindi. Each MPA was supporting team from his constituency.

In the final match of the Ramazan Night Cricket Tournament, MPA Wasiq Qayyum 11 of PP-12 trounced MPA Rashid Hafeez Azam 11 of PP-16.

The closing ceremony of the tournament was attended by MNA Sadaqat Ali Abbasi, and other local lawmakers as well as Commissioner Rawalpindi and DG Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Muhammad Ali Rindhawa. The officials said congratulated the chairman PHA Rawalpindi, Asif Mehmood, and stressed for more tournaments of such kinds in the city.

Asif Mehmood said that young generation was being destroyed by excessive use of mobile and internet.

Muhammad Ali Randhawa and Asif Mehmood distributed trophy and prizes amongst the players of winning team.

The T-20 night cricket tournament opened on Wednesday May 23. According to the Chairman Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA), Rawalpindi Asif Mehmood, 16 teams played 24 pool matches. The T-20 cricket tournament matches were played at different grounds simultaneously, he added. The PHA was trying to arrange healthy activities for the youngsters as per vision of the Prime Minister Imran Khan.  The cricket teams from different constituencies of National and provincial assemblies of Rawalpindi district under the supervision of respective MNAs and MPAs would participate in the tournament, he added.

He said that participation in sports activities was a symbol of living nations and its promotion is essential for the formation of healthy society.
