Bollywood actor Gauahar Khan defends Sarfaraz over criticism for wearing shalwar kameez
Tarek Fatah, a well-known journalist took to Twitter and tried 'shaming' the captain on his choice of attire
Pakistani cricket team captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed garnered praise for wearing shalwar kameez while meeting Queen Elizabeth II this week. Many stars came out to laud Sarfaraz on his decision.
However, there were some who criticised him for wearing the national dress and not opting for a suit. One of them was Tarek Fatah. The journalist took to Twitter to share his displeasure and tried 'shaming' Sarfaraz on his choice of attire.
"Captains of Cricket playing nations competing for the Cricket World Cup had a photo shoot with the Queen. Guess who came dressed in his pyjamas? None other than the Pakistan captain (back row, left). Take a look at him in the other pic. How does one country produce?" he wrote.
"Every other captain, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies and Zimbabwe is smartly turned out in a jacket and tie, but no, not the Pakistani. No sir, not him. I’m surprised he didn’t come in his Lungi-Banyan-Topi costume. How does?" he added.
Many responded to Tarek's reservation, including Bollywood actor Gauahar Khan.
Taking to Twitter, Gauahar aptly replied, "He is representing his culture and looking very handsome in that! Every human being has the right to wear what he does, with dignity and pride! But I guess you wouldn’t know anything about belonging or representing as u have an identity crisis yourself."
Many, including Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan and others applauded the captain for the same.
