RAWALPINDI: The cantonment boards in the garrison city will launch a crackdown after Eid against commercial activities in residential buildings, officials said.

Such buildings would be demolished in the first phase while there lease would be cancelled in the second phase.

The Chaklala Cantonment Board (CCB) has already issued notices to more than 50 buildings in Chaklala Scheme III area while the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) has prepared notices against 125 residential buildings which would be issued after Eid.

Further, the marked buildings were being used as private enterprises such as beauty parlours, massage centres, clinics, display centres and such.

Earlier, the Supreme Court (SC) had given three years period to all private schools operating in residential areas to move somewhere else.

The boards would issue notices to all properties falling under categories of non-confirming users to end business activities from residential buildings.

The revenue department would be requested to take an action against private land owners.

Last year in March RCB and CCB had issued notices to 222 private schools, telling them to move from residential areas under the directives of the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Defence also cancelled the lease of 14 properties in residential areas which were being used by schools.

Moreover, RCB had issued notices to 14 salons, 14 clinics and hospitals and 760 commercial shops and plazas established in residential areas.
