PESHAWAR: The Awami National Party has awarded a woman, Naheeda Bibi, a ticket to contest the general seat PK-106 Khyber Tribal District.

She personally applied for a ticket on the general seat after the central leadership of the party endorsed her.

The Awami National Party (ANP) has ramped up its activities for the July 2 elections in the tribal areas for the provincial assembly and issued tickets to candidates on the 16 general seats.

This is not the first time ANP has nominated a woman on a general seat. After the assassination of their provincial leader Haroon Bilour in a suicide bomb attack in Peshawar just weeks before the July 25 general elections last year, his wife Samar Bilour had successfully contested the subsequent by-election for the seat her husband was contesting.

Naheeda Bibi is an active member of the party in the provincial and tribal set-up and has held various key positions in the past.
