Committee for dementia patients in the offing in Punjab

Provincial Minister addresses a high-level meeting at the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Health Dr Yasmin Rashid has directed to constitute a special committee for the provision of proper care to patients of dementia. She expressed her views while presiding over a high-level meeting on Wednesday at the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department.

The minister said that dementia patients will be properly registered in any of the public sector hospitals of the province. A state-of-the-art centre will also be established in the Punjab Institute of Mental Health for looking after dementia patients.

Vacant posts of neurologists and psychologists in the public sector hospitals of Punjab will soon be filled. Memory clinics will also be established in the province for provision of better healthcare facilities to dementia patients.

Special committees will be bound by duty to present reports regarding the registration of dementia patients and provision of healthcare facilities to them on monthly basis. The provincial minister further said that there is a dire need to launch a special awareness campaign regarding dementia.
