Fake Encounters: IG sets up 10-member monitoring board

The inspection and vigilance cell will entertain applications from families of any person killed in a staged encounter

Inspector General Javed Iqbal has constituted a 10-member Monitoring and Vigilance Board to stop fake police encounters.



An inspection and vigilance cell, headed by Maj (retired) Mubasharullah, the Police Training School (PTS) deputy inspector general, has also been established with a member from each of the regions of the province. Maj Mubasharullah recently investigated a staged encounter in Nishtar Town. The inspection and vigilance cell will entertain applications from families of any person killed in a staged encounter.

The names of the members were announced through a press release issued on Tuesday. SSP (Investigation) Usama Mumtaz Raja has been given charge of the Lahore region; SP Muhammad Kashif in Sheikhupura; SP Munir Masood Marth in Gujranwala; Rawalpindi CTO Muhammad Azam in Rawalpindi; SSP Kamran Yousaf Malik in Faisalabad; SSP Ghazi Salahuddin in Sargodha; SP Younas Butt in Sahiwal; SP Maqsood Ahmad Khichi in Multan; SP Gohar Mushtaq Bhutta in DG Khan; and SP Shaukat Murtaza Malhi has been given charge of the Bahawalpur region.
