Football: David de Gea signs for United

United had hoped to keep the players arrival in Manchester a secret but the press were waiting in the wings.

LONDON:
David de Gea was unveiled as a Manchester United player yesterday afternoon following his £18.3 million transfer from Atlético Madrid. The keeper flew into Manchester to undergo a medical after which the deal was finalised. De Gea, who was part of the Spanish side that won the European Under-21 Championship in Denmark earlier this month, replaces Edwin van der Sar, who retired at the end of last season. United had hoped to keep the players arrival in Manchester a secret but the press were waiting in the wings. It has been common knowledge for the last two months that the keeper was destined for Old Trafford.
