KARACHI:
The Sindh Police have devised a security plan in light of Youm-e-Ali (RA), the last ten nights of Ramazan and Eid-ul-Fitr. The details were reviewed in a video conference on Sunday headed by Sindh Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr Syed Kaleem Imam, with all additional inspector-generals (AIGs), senior superintendents of police (SSPs) and deputy inspector-generals (DIGs) in attendance.
Dr Imam said that foolproof security measures should be ensured and all DIGs and SSPs should make all possible efforts to provide security for gatherings and processions in observance of Youm-e-Ali. He directed the SSPs, SPs and deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) to carry out snap checking every two hours in those areas. Besides, police officers and officials deployed for security should be briefed so as to ensure security by the additional police security and police parties from relevant police stations. The SHOs will not only supervise security measures at mosques, imambargahs, and other public gatherings for Taraveeh prayers in their respective areas but will also make entries on the relevant wireless base, said Dr Imam.

The IGP directed DIGs and district SSPs to visit the main mosques, imambargahs and open areas reserved for Taraveeh prayers for the remaining nights of Ramazan, particularly on Shab-e-Qadr [Night of Decree]. They should meet the citizens gathered for prayer while checking the security arrangements, said Dr Imam, adding that this would create a sense of safety among the people.
The same directives were issued for Eid-ul-Fitr prayers along with instructions for additional security in shopping malls and bazaars in the days leading up to the festival.
As a large number of people travel within the province and across the country during Eid holidays, surveillance and searching should be ensured at all entry and exit ways of Sindh and its cities, said Dr Imam. He ordered stricter snap checks and patrols on the highways.
