Hours after a deadly clash between Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) supporters and the security forces in North Waziristan tribal district, the top military spokesperson on Sunday vowed not to allow anyone to 'undo the gains of decades-long national struggle and sacrifices of brave Pakistani tribesmen'.

At least five soldiers were injured after a PTM mob, led by national assembly members Ali Wazir and Mohsin Javed (Dawar) allegedly attacked an army checkpost in Boyya. At least three alleged attackers were killed and 10 others injured in exchange of fire, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Taking to Twitter, DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor said, “Innocent PTM supporters / workers need care. Only few are inciting and using them against state institutions for vested agenda.”

Earlier in the day, the military media wing had said the group wanted to exert pressure for release of suspected terrorists’ facilitator arrested the other day. “Troops at the checkpost exercised maximum restraint in the face of provocation and direct firing on the post,” it added.

Earlier this month, the country’s top civil and military leadership had indicated the involvement of foreign elements in trying to stir up trouble in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
