Misuse of authority: Nowhere to run for ‘harassed’ duo

Jahangir, and his neighbour, file a petition against ‘pesky’ cops.

ISLAMABAD:

A court on Monday issued notices to the top officials of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA). The action was taken after two men, in a writ petition, accused these officials of harassing them by conducting raids on their houses.

Justice Riaz Ahmed Khan of Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued notices to the Director General (DG) CIA, Deputy Superintend of Police CIA, Station House Officer (SHO) Sabzi Mandi, Sub Inspector CIA Zulfiraq Ahmed, and assistant sub inspectors, directed them to submit their replies with in two weeks.

The first petitioner, Muhammad Jahangir through his lawyer, maintained that Sabzi Mandi police had registered a First Information Report (FIR) against his son Muhammad Amir on March, 2010 under section 394 and 302 of Pakistan Penal Code. Later, the police declared him a proclaimed offender.

He argued that after the registration of the FIR, police started harassing him, despite the fact that he is unaware about the whereabouts of his son. The counsel for the defence contended that for the last few days, the CIA staff including sub inspector of CIA Zulfiqar and ASI Iftikhar started raiding the petitioner’s house which is illegal and against the law.

The petitioners through their lawyer further maintained that the police officials picked up the second petitioner, Ejaz Khan, who is a neighbour of Jahangir, and forced him to sign some document under duress. They also asked the whereabouts of Muhammad Amir from him.

The lawyer added, “Khan pleaded that he did not know where Amir was and that he was not involved in the case, but they started threatening him with the documents he was forced to sign earlier.”
