Surplus stock: Punjab to export 1.9m tons of wheat

750,000 tons have already been exported

FAISALABAD: Punjab will export 1.9 million tons of wheat this year, of which 750,000 tons have already been exported, according to a spokesperson for the provincial food department on Monday. Around 3.8 million tons of wheat was procured during the recent campaign, which is far greater than the province’s requirements, the spokesperson added. The Punjab government has decided to provide flour at a cheaper rate through fair price shops under the Ramazan Package. The government has also allocated Rs3 billion subsidy for the scheme.
