PESHAWAR:
As many as 26 rescue workers from across the province have been provided with six-days training on mobilizing the community in response to any disaster.

The training was organised by the Network of Disaster Management Practitioners (NDMP) on Community Action for Disaster Response – Training for Instructors (CADRE-TFI) at the Emergency Rescue Service (Rescue 1122) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Headquarters. The training is part of the project titled “Developing Cadre of Community Workforce for Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response for Rescue 1122 Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Province” and is being funded by USAID Ambassador’s Fund Grant Programme (USAID-AFGP).

The 26 staffers of Rescue 1122 trained under the programme were selected from the ten districts of the province. The purpose of the course was to train the Rescue 1122 staff with basic knowledge and skills of instructorship and further, to develop a community workforce for disaster preparedness and emergency response.

The course methodology was highly participatory and allowed constant interaction between the instructors and participants. The training involved practical exercises, lessons with a performance component, and a practical evaluation was conducted at the end of the course.

During the closing ceremony of the training, K-P Emergency Rescue Service (Rescue 1122) Director General Dr Khateer Ahmad stated that Rescue 1122 was the first responder to any emergency under the K-P Emergency Rescue Services Act 2012.

“There is always room for improvement in any field and the USAID-AFGP grant project, being implemented by NDMP will surely assist in enhancing the capacities of Rescue 1122 professionals, and improve their services to the communities,” he said.
