Pakpattan case: SC seeks responses from parties on JIT report
Court had earlier issued notices to Nawaz, others in the case
ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday sought responses from parties on the joint investigation team's (JIT) report in the illegal allotment of Pakpattan Darbar land case.
Justice Umar Ata Bandial headed the three-member bench. Earlier, the SC had issued notices to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and others.
On the directives of the former chief justice Saqib Nisar, a JIT had been formed in the case that declared Nawaz responsible for illegal allotment of the land when he was Punjab chief minister in 1986.
In February, Nawaz had submitted his reply with the SC in the case involving illegal allotment of Pakpattan Darbar land.
The deposed premier had claimed that the JIT report was one-sided and mala fide, requesting the court to reject it. Nawaz had also requested the court to dismiss the notice issued against him.
Case Background
Former Punjab chief minister Nawaz during his tenure in office had allegedly allotted 1,800 kanals of Auqaf Department land around the Pakpattan shrine to an individual in violation of the Lahore High Court (LHC) order.
