QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan has said the provincial government can increase its revenue from the fisheries sector, but first it will have to revamp the structure of its department.

The chief minister was chairing a meeting to review the performance of fisheries and other provincial departments on Friday.

The fisheries secretary told Kamal that four landing jetties had been proposed for inclusion in the next Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). Besides, he added, a VHF system would be installed in 1,000 boats for better tracking of fishermen.

“The VHF system will be helpful in rescuing stranded fishermen and also be useful in preventing illegal fishing through trailers,” he said.

The chief minister directed the secretary to take measures for the welfare and development of fishermen, recruit lifeguards and purchase a sea ambulance.

Balochistan Chief Secretary Dr Akhtar Nazeer, the additional planning and development chief secretary, the Board of Revenue senior member, the home secretary, the finance secretary and other officials also attended the meeting.
