Traffic police launches mobile canteen for wardens

It will supply cold drinks as well as Iftari to wardens during Ramazan

MULTAN: The City Traffic Police Multan has introduced a mobile canteen to facilitate wardens in the scorching heat of summer.

The canteen will move to different locations in Multan and approach the wardens appointed at various city points. The canteen has also a small rest cabin with tables and chairs for wardens. The step was taken after a 12-year-long struggle of traffic wardens who performed duty on streets in all types of weathers, including scorching heat of summer and chilling winds of winter.

Chief Traffic Police Officer Multan SSP Huma Naseeb said the temperature in Multan rises up to 45 Celsius in summer and the initiative was taken to provide relief to the traffic wardens. She said the mobile canteen would supply cold drinks as well as Iftari to the wardens in Ramazan. “The refreshment service is badly needed in summer specially because there are not even shades or trees under which the traffic wardens would be able to take some rest,” she added.

She said currently only one mobile canteen has been introduced, however, more canteens would be launched in future depending upon the availability of funds.



Traffic wardens appreciated the step taken by CTO. Traffic Warden Mohammad Adnan said the traffic wardens could not even have cold drinking water in the hot months of May, June and July and these moveable canteens were a sigh of relief for them.

“Common people on roads can understand the nature of our job as we have to stay in uniform for the whole day under the sun,” he added.

Another Traffic Warden Muhammad Asif demanded that the number of mobile canteens should be increased to at least five as Multan was a big city with the population of around two million. He said this was the first time that the services and hard work of traffic wardens has been acknowledged and they were provided necessary facilities otherwise we had to manage Sehri and Aftari on our own during duty hours in Ramazan.
