Lawyer and former IO in Baldia case exchange hot words

Sheikh informed the SSP of apparent threats given to him by former IO Jahanzeb

A verbal altercation ensued between the special public prosecutor and the former investigation officer (IO) of Baldia factory fire case during the hearing of the case on Monday at the special anti-terrorism court (ATC).

Special public prosecutor Sajid Mehboob Sheikh informed the SSP of apparent threats given to him by former IO Jahanzeb. Jail officials presented accused Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) workers, Zubair alias Charya and Rehman alias Bhola before the court. MQM's Rauf Siddiqui and other accused who are out on bail also appeared before the court.

Sheikh and Jehangir presented witnesses before the court which recorded their statements. Lawyer for the accused completed cross-examination of the witness statements.

Lawyers disrupt court proceedings


The court adjourned hearing till May 9 and summoned more witnesses.

After the hearing, Sheikh said that former IO Jehanzeb threatened to kill him on court premises. The prosecutor said that the investigation of the case has been transferred to IO Raja Jehangir so the case files should also be provided to him. Former IO Jehanzeb refused to give the case file to the current IO, Jehangir, he said adding that Jehanzeb had also refused to submit the case file in ATC. "Do what you want. I will not give the case file and will deal with you as well," said former IO Jehanzeb.

The investigation of the case was taken from inspector Jehanzeb amid allegations that he was misleading the investigation.
