South Korean Ambassador to Pakistan Kwak Sung-Kyu called on Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal on Friday to discuss his country’s investment plan in the province.

Kamal informed the Korean envoy about the investment potential in Balochistan’s agricultural, fisheries, mineral, energy and livestock sectors.

“South Korean companies can invest in the provincial fisheries sector and set up processing and packing plants,” Kamal said, adding that fish processing units have been exporting fish to the international market through Gwadar.

The Balochistan chief minister assured the envoy that investors would be facilitated in every way possible.

“Export processing and economic zones are being set up in Balochistan,” he informed the envoy.

“Gwadar has become the flagship city in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor [CPEC] and will provide industrial and economic opportunities for our youth.”

Sung-Kyu expressed his interest in investment opportunities in Balochistan.

He also told the chief minister that the Korean government would provide assistance to the Balochistan government in skill development and fisheries programmes.

“Students from Balochistan will be given opportunities to study in Korea through joint educational programmes,” he added.

A day earlier, the Korean ambassador handed over the keys of six police vehicles to Balochistan police in a ceremony held at the chief minister’s office.

Balochistan Inspector General of Police Mohsin Hassan Butt received the keys of the vehicles, which he said would help in bolstering efforts to make the province safer and more secure.

The Balochistan chief minister was also present on the occasion.

Kamal said this gesture from people of South Korea to the people of Balochistan would further strengthen the ties between the two countries.

The ambassador, accompanied by his diplomats and businessmen from South Korea, hoped that the vehicles would help the provincial police in law enforcement. He also informed the chief minister about the significant contributions of the South Korea in the field of economy and investment in Pakistan and expressed hope of furthering them in Balochistan in particular.

In the end, the Balochistan IGP thanked the ambassador for the vehicles and expressed his resolve in strengthening law-enforcement cooperation in making the citizens safe.
