Students build, fly remote control aircraft in K-P

College of Aeronautical Engineering, Risalpur team stands first

Students of different universities took part in a competition to design, build and fly their remote controled aircraft, display their skills, test knowledge and practical work.

A three-day National Design, Build and Flying Competition (DBFC) at Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology concluded.

The DBFC was organised in collaboration with STEM Careers Program, a project of   Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The STEM Careers project encourages talented students of the country to come forward and play their due role in achieving technological breakthroughs.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Masroor said that the competition provided a golden opportunity to young engineers of different universities to design, build and fly their remote control aircraft, display their skills, test knowledge and practical work.

“The STEM project is basically aimed to discover the youth hidden talent and support competent students, aiming to utilize their knowledge capability,” he said.


Mechanical Engineering faculty dean Prof Dr SM Ahmad, Wing Commander Dr Shoaib Salamat, DBFC Coordinator Yasir Mahmood spoke on the occasion.

Nosherwan Arshad, AIAA’s president said that after short-listing 18 teams participated in the competition.

The team of College of Aeronautical Engineering, Risalpur stood first, NED Karachi second and GIK Institute third. The top team  got a reward of Rs80,000, second Rs60,000 and third Rs45,000.

There were also two consolation awards of Rs22,500 each, given to teams of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro and GIK Institute.

Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad director academics Prof Dr Masroor Ikram and head of STEM Careers project gave away prizes to winners and certificates to participating teams.
