Child dies from anaesthesia overdose during surgery

The two doctors who were arrested on Tuesday under charges of unintentional murder of an eight-year-old boy during surgery were released on bail on Wednesday. A civil judge and judicial magistrate granted the bail against a surety of Rs1 million each submitted by Dr Ayub Motlani, an ophthalmologist, and Dr Muhammad Ali Jarwar.
The child, Waris Shoro, who underwent cataract surgery by Dr Motlani at a private hospital in Market area on Tuesday, is said to have died due to an overdose of anaesthesia.
Parents file complaint against hospital for infant's mistreatment
As he could not regain consciousness after the surgery, the doctor referred him to Liaquat University Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
The police quoted the medico-legal officer who pointed out anaesthesia overdose as the cause of death though the post-mortem report is awaited. The Market police lodged an FIR under Section 322 of Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Abdul Raheem Shoro, an uncle of the deceased child.
