Pindi’s 53 price magistrates to battle profiteering in Ramazan

As many as 53 price control magistrates have been tasked with the daily inspection of the quality and prices of goods at the 16 Ramazan bazaars which will be set up in the city after the provincial government set prices for essential items. This was disclosed by Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ali Randhawa on Tuesday during a ‘meet the press’ event at the Rawalpindi Press Club. He was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Maliha Jamal, Additional Deputy Commissioner- Revenue Zaigham Nawaz and Assistant Commissioner-Headquarters Ashar Iqbal and others.

Randhawa added that they were speaking to different trading organizations for the provision of quality items at the Ramazan bazaars.

The DC added that they were working on improving all sectors including health, education and revenue by regularly monitoring them.

“We want to establish a competitive environment between senior officials as it would help improve performances,” Randhawa said.

He added that district educational officers and heads of schools have been directed to launch renovation and cleanliness drives in their respective schools. Moreover, he said that they were paying greater attention to children in grade one through three to improve the level of their spoken English. Moreover, ten schools have been selected for internship programmes in which university students will teach children as per modern methods.

Further, he said that schools have been directed to devise modern methods for teaching mathematics and Urdu through games and activities.

The deputy commissioner added that they have introduced a task-management system to address public compliant. Through this system, he said, complainants, will be provided with a complaint identity number while assistant commissioners and district officials will be asked to provide progress reports during their monthly meetings.
