K-Electric directed to stop collection of GDDS charges
NEPRA takes notice of charges collected by company without approval
ISLAMABAD:
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has taken notice of collection of Group Dedicated Distribution System (GDDS) charges by K-Electric without approval.
It had received a complaint from a power distribution company consumer, who said he had been charged Rs550,000, which was not approved by Nepra.
Nepra noted, after the complaint, that K-Electric had been collecting GDDS charges from its consumers for the provision of electricity connection without seeking approval of the regulatory authority.
“The authority has taken serious notice of this and has directed K-E to submit a detailed report and defer the collection of GDDS charges till the decision of the authority,” Nepra said in a statement.
K-Electric management, in a statement, said the company “is a law-abiding, responsible corporate entity which ensures compliance with all respective guidelines prescribed by relevant authorities. The power utility follows due process in coordination with concerned authorities, ensuring prior notification and seeking permission, wherever applicable, on the timeline and implementation of directives.”
Regarding the charges for provision of electricity connection, “K-Electric is fully compliant with the respective rules and regulations. Moreover, the power utility will respond in due course in accordance with the law,” its spokesperson said.
