Kiran looking to impress selectors
Army swimmer happy with record-breaking form.
KARACHI:
Kiran Khan will be looking to captilise on her record-breaking form in the National Women Open Championship, as the 21-year-old swimmer looks to catch the eye of national selectors, who will be selecting the best male and female athletes for the World Championship, that will also serve as a qualifying tournament for the 2012 Olympics.
The Pakistan Army swimmer is on her way to become the national champion for the 11th time, having already bagged 10 medals in two days at the ongoing swimming meet in Islamabad.
“It’s incredible that I’m still a champion after 11 years,” Kiran told The Express Tribune. “I’m happy but it’s surprising that no one else has emerged in the championship.”
Kiran won four gold medals in the 200m individual medley, 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke and butterfly events, while breaking her own record in the 100m butterfly.
Meanwhile, Army’s Israr Hussain bagged two gold medals in the 100m freestyle and 400m freestyle events.
Army is leading the men’s event with six gold medals and the women’s championship with 13 gold medals.
