Supreme Court to hear Nawaz's bail plea on May 3
Six-week-long medical relief granted to Nawaz earlier expires on May 7
ISLAMABAD :
The Supreme Court on Tuesday fixed a hearing for former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's bail plea seeking an extension for May 3.
The three-member special bench led by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa will hear the matter.
The six-week-long medical relief granted to former PM Nawaz expires on May 7.
On April 27, the former prime minister requested the apex court to grant him 'permanent bail' on the basis of his fresh medical report which revealed that Nawaz continues to suffer from acute anxiety and depression that will lead to 'sudden death'.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader has also requested the SC to allow him to go abroad for medical treatment.
Former PM Nawaz has been serving a seven-year prison term at Lahore Kot Lakhpat Jail since December 24, 2018, when an accountability court convicted him in one of the three corruption cases filed in the wake of the apex court’s July 28, 2017 order in Panama Papers case.
