In April 2018, Shafi claimed she was sexually harassed by Zafar on multiple occasions. Zafar denied the allegations and filed a defamation suit against Shafi.
Zafar, who sat down for an interview with a private news channel, said, "If she [Meesha] takes a step forward I'll take ten steps forward."
Asked why she would falsely accuse him merely for fame, Zafar said, “I don’t know why she is doing this, you should ask her. She should come to the court and tell us what she really wants.”
Zafar said he had been at the receiving end of threats from fake social media accounts.
Maybe Meesha wanted to be Malala, maybe she wanted immigration: Ali Zafar
“She performed with me on the stage. If she was harassed then why did she message me later saying that she had a great time jamming and performing and was grateful for the kind words I said about her on stage.”
He questioned how someone who was harassed would ever say that to her harasser.
Zafar also lamented 'harsh and derogatory language' being used against him on social media by Meesha’s lawyer Nighat Dad.
“The language used by her [Shafi's] lawyer for me, is that the language used by a lawyer? She claims to be a human rights activist, but does anyone say that about someone’s family?”
Reminding Shafi of long acquaintance, Zafar urged her to resolve the matter. “We have known each other for a while now. Even our kids have played together.”
Ali Zafar breaks down in tears, asks Meesha Shafi to end the fiasco.
