RAWALPINDI:
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) of Rawalpindi have started work on devising a feasibility study for building a new food street near Committee Chowk after it emerged that building the food street in the Kartar Pura area was impractical.

Further, the horticultural authorities in the city are mulling phase-wise plans to beautify Murree Road.

To be built on the Rawalpindi Development Authority’s (RDA) land, the food street will have a dedicated parking area, public washrooms, and security systems.

Stalls with a wide range of cuisines from across the country will be offered in the food street.

PHA Chairman Asif Mehmood has stated that the proposed site is suitable for building a food street because it is easily accessible.

He added that the issue of parking will be resolved by allocating a large area for parking which will be secured and protected.

Construction on the street will start after RDA grants approval.

Murree Road beautification

To beautify the Murree Road, the first phase will see work commence on Chandni Chowk to Faizabad. In the second phase, the stretch from Chandni Chowk to Marrir Chowk would be reconditioned.

Buildings on both sides of the road, along with the pillars for the elevated track of the metro bus will also be painted while colourful flowers will be planted in median.
