Athletics: Bolt inspires Blake to lead sprinters

Usain Bolt’s training partner Yohan Blake won a fast but wind-assisted 100 metres preliminary race.

Usain Bolt’s training partner Yohan Blake won a fast but wind-assisted 100 metres preliminary race in an eye-catching 9.83 seconds at the Jamaican world championship trials. Blake edged Michael Frater by three hundredths of a second, aided by a big wind of 3.6 metres per second. World bronze medallist Asafa Powell and compatriots Steve Mullings and Nesta Carter also were among heat winners. Powell ran a wind-assisted 9.99 seconds, Carter clocked 10.05 and Mullings finished in 10.13. World record holder Bolt is not competing in the meeting.
