Accountability court asks NAB to submit complete probe report by next hearing

An accountability court on Saturday extended for ten more days the judicial remand of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Punjab former senior minister Abdul Aleem Khan.
The court ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation officer to ensure submission of a complete report against the suspect, while summoning the suspect again on April 30.
Earlier, jail officials presented Khan before the Accountability Court of Judge Syed Najam-ul-Hassan Bukhari amid tight security. During the hearing, the court asked the investigation officer whether the investigation had been completed and when the complete report would be presented in court.

The investigating officer replied that the probe had been completed while the report was being drafted and would be sent to the concerned officials once it is complete.
The NAB prosecutor, in his arguments, said the final report was in the drafting stage. “The final report is completed in different phases which cannot be bypassed,” he said, requesting the court to grant appropriate time to present the final report in court.
The court remarked that no one can be kept in jail for an indefinite period.
The lawyer for the suspect, in his arguments, said NAB officials repeat the same allegation at every hearing but the final report is not presented and the NAB has now asked for additional time.

Khan’s counsel requested the court that the judicial remand of the suspect be extended only by a few days. The court ordered NAB to present a complete investigation report by the next hearing.
Extraordinary security arrangements were made during Aleem Khan’s appearance before the court. One part of the road leading to the judicial complex was sealed with shipping containers, blockades and barbed wires while the traffic was diverted to alternate routes.
PTI workers also reached the court to express solidarity with Khan and raised slogans on his arrival.
