RAWALPINDI/ ISLAMABAD: Heavy rains lashed the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi from late on Tuesday evening through Wednesday forcing the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to review its flood arrangements while the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Rawalpindi declared a rain emergency.

With strong currents seen flooding main thoroughfares in the federal capital in viral videos, the ICT administration held a review meeting on Wednesday with Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat in the chair.

The meeting was told that there was no threat of flooding or massive winds at the moment. However, the district administration decided to maintain constant vigilance to combat the flood-like situation particularly along the banks of River Sawan and Korang.  It was decided to conduct a survey of the catchment areas in the urban and rural areas and take effective protective measures in the wake of further rains.

The sub-divisional officers of Rawal Dam and Simly Dam were asked to remain in close contact with the district administration authorities and to provide regular updates on variation in water levels. All employees were recalled back and were distributed in the five zones of the city.
