‘Research key to combating challenges’

FAISALABAD: Quality education and tangible research are prerequisites of combating different challenges such as poverty, unemployment, low agricultural yield, post-harvest losses, food insecurity, climate change and others, said University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Ashraf. Chairing a meeting of deans and directors at the UAF, the vice chancellor pointed out that the country was facing various challenges for which the academia and researchers would have to provide solid solutions in order to cope with the difficulties being faced by the common man, industry and farming community. He urged UAF faculty members to work on innovative ideas, think out of the box and engage in fruitful research projects for uplift and sustainability. “Despite being an agrarian country, we are importing agricultural goods worth billions of rupees every year,” he said and urged UAF researchers to develop new varieties of commodities keeping climate change and latest trends in view.
