Pakistan’s Aisamul Haq wins Houston doubles title

Qureshi and Gonzales beat Ken Skupski and Neal Skupski 2-1 in the final

KARACHI: Pakistani tennis player, Aisamul Haq Qureshi along with Mexico’s Santiago Gonzalez won their first ATP Tour title as a team on Sunday.

The duo defeated British brothers Ken Skupski and Neal Skupski 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 to win the Fayez Sarofim & Co US men’s clay court championship in Houston.

This is Aisamul Haq's 17th ATP title while Gonzales has won 13 titles.

Qureshi and Gonzales reached their first tour-level final at the New York Open in February, where they ultimately lost to German duo Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies. The Mexican-Pakistani duo, Qureshi and Gonzales first won a trophy together in Brazil 11 years ago.

Speaking about winning another title Qureshi said: " I am glad that I succeeded in waving Pakistan's flag once again in foreign land."

He also thanked his partner: "Thanks to Santiago. He's been sticking up with me and believing in me, I'm super happy that we managed to win it. At the end of today he stepped his game up and really showed why he's been Top 20, and why he made the final of the French Open. This is his favourite surface and he definitely made the difference in the end today."

Qureshi vowed to bring a good name to the country with his performances in the future as well.
