D I KHAN: School children of Government Girls High School Chagmali, South Waziristan, staged a protest against teachers who have remained absent for years.

Accompanied by their parents, the students marched holding placards, banners and chanted slogan against the education department of the tribal district.

The students and parents demanded of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Inspector General Frontier Corps and adviser to the CM on education to take action and send home packing the absent teachers.

While talking to The Express Tribune they said that students always come to the school, but only three out of 17 teachers attend classes. Fourteen teachers on roll of the school were only taking salaries and not taking classes. Besides, the security guards of the school were also absent from duty and taking free-money as salary, protesting girls said.

“Principal of the school has never set foot here. In spite of repeated complaints and personal visits of parents to the district education department, the principal was never asked to explain why he was drawing salary from government but not doing his duty at the school,” parent of a child said.

The parents stated that 400 students have been registered at Government Girls High School Chagmali, but the education department officials have never visited, nor checked the absence of teachers from duty.
