GST Protest: Kiln owners suspend brick supplies
The imposition of 16% sales tax would threaten their businesses and could leave thousands of labourers unemployed.
FAISALABAD/ SIALKOT:
The supply of bricks remained suspended for the second day in Sialkot and Faisalabad districts on Thursday as brick kiln owners and labourers held protest demonstration against the imposition of the general sales tax (GST). Kiln owners in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils have suspended the supply as a protest against the GST. They warned the district government of a hunger strike and stoppage of work from July 1, if the GST is not withdrawn. Kiln owners and labourers in Faisalabad also protested against the GST by blocking traffic at Jhal Chowk and Zila Council Chowk. They said that the imposition of 16 per cent sales tax would threaten their businesses and could leave thousands of labourers unemployed.
