LAHORE: Pakistan can win a substantial share of the global market by ensuring participation in trade fairs and exhibitions in Germany, said Honorary Consul of Pakistan in Germany Matthias Theis.

Addressing the business community at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Saturday, he voiced hope that strong liaison between commerce chambers and business institutions of the two countries would enhance the mutual trade volume.

“Pakistani businessmen must attend trade and business events in Europe,” Theis stressed adding that world class trade fairs in Germany were playing a crucial role in boosting its exports.

He urged Pakistan’s business community to adopt a strong strategy because customers in the European Union (EU) were not only quality conscious but also very selective in making deals with other countries.

Speaking on the occasion, LCCI acting president Khawaja Shahzad Nasir said Pakistan and Germany were steady trading partners.

He said Germany occupied 11th place among the top importing countries and fifth among top exporting countries for Pakistan.

“It is good to see that the level of bilateral trade is increasing year after year. It was $2.4 billion in 2017 and rose to $2.62 billion in 2018,” he maintained.

Nasir urged Pakistani entrepreneurs to ensure maximum participation in international trade fairs and exhibitions to enhance their exposure to fast changing trend in international trade.

“Germany is one of the few trillion dollar economies of the world and we are glad to have trade and investment relations with it,” he remarked.

“Germany has earned a good name in the field of alternative energy solutions in the world and Pakistan looks towards Germany to assist it in meeting its rising energy needs,” said LCCI Vice President Faheemur Rehman Saigal.
